This scheme targets people who do not own a house and live in severely damaged or temporary structures. Under PMAY-G, houses of 25 sqm are being constructed. Beneficiaries are identified using the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) and verified by the Gram Sabhas.

PMAY Gramin Subsidy
The PMAY Gramin subsidy offers a 3% interest rate for beneficiaries. The maximum principal amount is Rs 2 lakh, and the maximum subsidy one can avail is Rs 38,359 on the EMI. Beneficiaries can also get loans up to Rs 70,000 from financial organizations.
PMAY Gramin: Eligibility
To be eligible for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana rural scheme, the following conditions must be met:
- The beneficiary or their family must not own any pucca house across the country.
- Families living in kutcha homes with one, two, or no rooms are eligible.
- Families with no male members aged 16-59 years.
- Families with specially-abled members or no other able-bodied member.
- Families with no land or property, relying on casual labor for livelihood.
- SC, ST, minorities, and tribals who cannot afford a unit.
PMAY Rural Scheme: Ineligibility Conditions
Certain conditions make families ineligible for a housing unit under PMAY Gramin:
- Families with an adult member above 25 years of age who is literate.
- People paying tax/professional tax.
- Those who own refrigerators or landline phone connections.
- Family members with a government job earning over Rs 10,000 per month.
- Those with a Kisan Credit Card (KCC) limit greater than or equal to Rs 50,000.
- Those owning motorized vehicles or agricultural equipment.

PMAY Rural Scheme Details
The size of the units under PMAY Gramin is 25 sqm (269.098 sqft). The cost of PMAY Gramin units is shared between the center and the state in a 60:40 ratio. In plain areas, the assistance is Rs 1.20 lakh per unit. In the Himalayan states, north-eastern states, and Jammu and Kashmir, the ratio is 90:10 with Rs 1.30 lakh assistance per unit. The center finances all union territories, covering the entire cost.
Beneficiaries are identified through an economic and caste census, verified by the gram sabhas. Collaboration with MGNREGA and Swachh Bharat Mission provides additional assistance for toilet construction. Beneficiaries will get employment for 95 days under MGNREGA and Rs 12,000 financial support for toilet construction under Swachh Bharat Mission – Gramin. All payments are transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ Aadhaar-linked bank or post office accounts.

How to Apply for a Housing Unit?
To apply for a housing unit under PMAY Gramin:
- Contact the concerned ward member at the gram panchayat.
- Fill and submit the application form available at the gram panchayat.
- If assistance is needed from a third-party, sign a consent form.
You can also apply online:
- Log on to the official website for PMAYG.
- Fill in your Aadhaar details and select to register. The rest of the details will be filled automatically.
- Provide your bank details online. If you wish to avail of a loan, enter the loan amount. You can edit these details later.






PMAY Gramin: Rhreporting Application Tracking Website
Once registered with PMAY Gramin, applicants can check their application status on the rhreporting.nic.in website. The rhreporting.nic.in new list provides information about beneficiaries in urban and rural areas. To download the rhreporting.nic.in 2023-24 new list or the PM Awas Yojana list 2023, visit the reporting.nic.in website and click on ‘Reports’ under Awaassoft.

Click on Beneficiary details for verification under Social audit reports to access the rhreporting.nic.in 2020-21 data. You will reach the housing report page where you can check the details.

PMAY Gramin: Grievance Redressal
According to PMAY-G guidelines, states/UTs should utilize the services of ombudspersons under MGNREGA to address grievances. These ombudspersons are assigned additional responsibilities for PMAY-G within the same geographical jurisdiction. Complaints should be resolved within 30 days of receipt.
Since the inception of PMAY-G on April 1, 2016, to July 28, 2023, a total of 13,673 grievances have been received. Out of these, 13,509 have been resolved as of July 28, 2023.
PMAY Gramin: Latest News
February 8, 2024: UP Allocates Rs 2,441 Crore for PMAY-G
According to a ToI report, the Uttar Pradesh government has allocated Rs 2,441 crore for the implementation of PMAY-G. In 2022-23, more than 28 lakh housing units were constructed in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh, achieving almost 96% of the target set for the fiscal year.
February 1, 2024: Two Crore Houses to be Built in 5 Years
In the interim Budget 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the government aims to construct over two crore affordable houses under PMAY-G in the next five years. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the government achieved its target of 3 crore houses.
January 16, 2024: PM Releases First Instalment of PM-JANMAN
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the first instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) on January 15, 2024, to 1 lakh beneficiaries of PMAY-G. With a budget of Rs 24,000 crore, PM-JANMAN focuses on improving socio-economic conditions by providing basic facilities such as safe housing, clean drinking water, sanitation, education, health, nutrition, electricity, road and telecom connectivity, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
