Affordable Housing in MHADA Colony: A Comprehensive Guide

With an aim to provide affordable housing options to the people, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) was established by the state government in 1976. Since then, MHADA has been responsible for providing quality residential options across the state and across income groups. Currently, it is providing affordable housing options under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Role of MHADA

The basic objective of MHADA is to uplift the people who belong to the lower strata of society and provide them with quality housing. So far, MHADA has provided affordable housing to nearly 7.5 lakh families across the state, of which one-third are in Mumbai alone. MHADA has jurisdiction over the entire Maharashtra state, except the Vidharba region. For better management and organization in Mumbai, it was divided into three separate boards: the Mumbai Housing and Area Development Board, the Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board, and the Mumbai Slum Improvement Board.
