Pune Metro: Transforming Urban Mobility with Vanaz Metro Station

Pune, in the last decade, has seen a significant population increase with people migrating from different parts of India due to its excellent educational facilities and job opportunities. While the city is renowned for its research and development institutions, IT Parks, and automobile industries, it lacked sustainable infrastructure for easy transportation. This gap led to the inception of the Pune Metro project, a game-changer for urban mobility in Pune.

Pune Metro: An Overview

With the average travel time amounting to over 100 minutes a day, there was an urgent need for a safe, reliable, and affordable transport system. Pune Metro: Features

Under the Make in India policy, all the Pune Metro coaches are made in India. As Pune Metro provides connectivity through the most populated areas in the city, it has explored the underground option. The Pune Metro compartments are made of aluminum as opposed to steel coaches, which has advantages like less energy consumption, longer life, and less maintenance. Pune Metro plans to install around 11.2 MWp solar power generation on the elevated stations’ rooftops, thereby harnessing solar energy. This initiative aims to save Rs 20 crore every year towards energy costs. For 100% wastewater management, an anaerobic biodigester will be constructed according to an agreement between Maha Metro and the DRDO, ensuring zero discharge into the municipal wastewater system by all Pune Metro Stations.

Pune Metro Stations: Design

The design of a few metro stations has been inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan Metro Station and Deccan Gymkhana Metro Station resemble the headgear worn by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s soldiers, known as Mavala Pagadi. The Shivaji Nagar underground Metro Station depicts the forts made by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Additionally, the Civil Court Metro Station is one of the deepest metro stations in India, with the deepest point at 33.1 m. The roof of the Civil Court Metro Station is designed to allow direct sunlight to fall on the platform.

Impact of Pune Metro on Real Estate

The real estate market in Pune, especially those next to the currently operational metro stations, has seen a positive impact. According to industry reports, since the metro rail was announced, property values in these areas have increased by more than 8%. Additionally, rental yields in these areas have also risen. In premium areas, the impact of the Pune Metro is yet to be fully ascertained. However, experts believe that even in such areas, once the Pune Metro is fully operational, there will be a shift in market prices due to reduced congestion, time savings, and lower pollution levels.

BhuMe.in POV

Pune Metro is changing the face of Pune city. By addressing traffic woes and connecting locations in two different directions effortlessly, the Pune Metro has significantly reduced travel time in the city. With the metro expanding through the three different lines - Purple Line, Aqua Line, and Red Line - the real estate impact around them is positive.
